Florence Le Cam
Florence Le Cam is Professor and Chair of Journalism at the Université libre de Bruxelles. Her research focuses in particular on journalistic professional identities, their historical construction, and how they adapt to contemporary transformations (changes in labor market rules, appropriation of new technologies, and cultural shifts). She is co-editor of the journal Sur le journalisme. Her recent publications address Belgian women journalists, violence against journalists, and socio-historical comparisons of online journalism. She also leads research activities within the journalism history research center, CAMille.
Florence Le Cam conducts research on the history of journalists and their contemporary confrontation with new technologies. A member of ReSIC (ULB) and ARENES (Université de Rennes 1, France), she is co-editor of the international scientific journal Sur le journalisme – About journalism – Sobre jornalismo. She co-leads LaPIJ (Laboratory on Journalistic Practices and Identities) with David Domingo at ULB.
She is currently involved in several research projects, including a comparison of journalistic identities in Brazil and Belgium (with Professor Fabio Henrique Pereira of the University of Brasília), a socio-historical analysis of newsroom photographs since the late 19th century, and research on journalists’ emotions with Denis Ruellan (Université Paris-Sorbonne).
