Sylvie Peperstraete is an art historian specializing in ancient Mesoamerican​ cultures. She earned her Ph.D. from the Université libre de Bruxelles in 2005 and was a research fellow, then a postdoctoral researcher, at the Fund for Scientific Research — FNRS. She is now a professor at the Université libre de Bruxelles and a director of studies at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris.
