Sadia Agsous-Bienstein

Sadia Agsous is a researcher in Arabic and Hebrew languages, literatures and cultures, teaches at the Department of Arabic Studies at the University of Paris - 8 Vincennes. Her research is rooted in cultural studies, translation studies and modern Arab thought and focuses on Palestinians in Israel, Jewish-Arab relations in Palestine and the "pre-1948" Palestinian cultural archive . She is currently working on her project “Unveiling the fight against antisemitism in Arabic textual and visual cultures (1894-Present day)”. Her book (2022) Derrière l’hébreu, l’arabe: Le roman palestinien en hébreu (1966 – 2017) (Behind Hebrew, Arabic: The Palestinian Novel in Hebrew (1966-2017)) examines the novels written in Hebrew by Palestinian writers in Israel between 1966 and 2017. Set in the historical literary and cultural Arab minority context to which these writers belong, these literary texts are the manifest expression, within Hebrew literature, of a latent virtuality: that of an Arabic language that would circulate under the effort to make the Palestinian identity and its historical landscape - shaped by the Nakba- exist in the Hebrew-speaking linguistic space.
