Omar Jabary Salamanca

Omar Jabary Salamanca is an associate professor of social sciences at the Université libre de Bruxelles. His work lies at the intersection of critical geography, urban studies, political ecology and visual culture, with a particular focus on Palestine and the Middle East. He is also interested in cultural work, particularly the social histories and archiving practices of anti-colonial and solidarity movements. Omar is currently completing a manuscript on the political life of infrastructure, to be published by Verso Books.

Before joining ULB as an FNRS postdoctoral researcher, Omar was a FWO researcher and lecturer in the Department of Conflict and Development at Ghent University, as well as a Marie Curie Global Fellow in the Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies at Columbia University. He has also been a visiting researcher in the Department of Geography at the School of Global Studies, University of Sussex, and in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Omar sits on the editorial board of Arab Urbanism and on the advisory boards of Antipode, ACME and Environment and Planning D: Society and Space. He is a founding member of The Kitchen and University Workers for Palestine.
