Caroll Davila

Caroll Davila conducted her PhD in both Université Libre de Bruxelles and Universiteit Leiden, with a FNRS fellowship. Her work focused on tangible and intangible heritage of the Zapotec indigenous communities from the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca (Mexico) with a decolonial perspective. She combined ethnographic fieldwork, linguistic interpretations, archaeological prospection as well as direct collaboration with indigenous native teachers with decolonizing and educative purposes. After accomplishing her PhD, she participated to a collective project at the University if Münster, concerning Zapotec religion during the 19th Century. In 2020, she has been awarded a BAEF fellowship for a postdoctoral position at the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley, where she will continue her researches on Zapotec ritual speeches.
