Séminaire "Ukrainian Shapeshifters: documenting the Russian war on Ukraine in creative nonfiction"
01/12/2025
by Sasha Dovzhyk, MSH's invited professor
Sasha Dovzhyk holds a PhD in English and Comparative Literature. She is also a writer and the founder of INDEX: The Institute for Documentation and Exchange established in Lviv amidst Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. The purpose of this new cultural and research institution is to document Ukrainian wartime experiences in diverse forms and formats, while rooting this work in intellectual exchange with the broader world. During the seminar, Sasha Dovzhyk will go back to the motivation that led to the creation of INDEX and will present her new piece of work, a collection of testimonies stylized as fairy tales.
Sasha Dovzhyk is a writer, head of INDEX: Institute for Documentation and Exchange, and editor-in-chief of the London Ukrainian Review. She holds a PhD in English and Comparative Literature from Birkbeck, and has taught at Birkbeck and UCL SSEES, worked as a special projects curator at the Ukrainian Institute London, and edited three books. Her writing has also appeared in the New York Times, Los Angeles Review of Books, Guardian, CNN, and others. Having lived in London for nine years, she moved back to Ukraine in 2023 and established a new cultural and research institution, INDEX, in Lviv.
