Professor

PhD in Journalism (2006, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), he has been a docent and researcher in that university (2000-2002), and also at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (2003-2012) and currently at Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium, since 2012). He has been visiting researcher at University of Iowa (USA, 2007-2008) and Tampere (Finland, 2010). He is the co-founder of the laboratory for journalism research LaPIJ, established at ULB in 2015, an international network of researchers in 7 universities Europe, America and Africa.

His research focuses on the adoption of technological innovations in newsrooms and how the position of journalism in the public sphere is evolving in the digital context. He has been involved in research projects that involved the collaboration between social scientists and the media industry in Spain, Belgium and more generally in Europe, transferring knowledge to foster a better social impact of journalism in society. He is currently involved in a multidisciplinary project reviewing the management of the COVID-19 crisis in Belgium in order to develop protocols for future pandemics. His contribution to the project, in collaboration with Ingrid van Marion and Sébastien De Valeriola, focuses on the analysis of the presence of scientific knowledge and disinformation on news media and social networks, and the communication strategies of scientists and political actors.
