Serena Buti

PhD Student

Serena Buti obtained her MA in Polish Literature at Sapienza University of Rome. She studied in Moscow, Warsaw, and Krakow to perfect her language skills. In her Master’s thesis (Post-Romantic Self-Creation in Biesy by Piotr Odmieniec Włast, supervisor: Prof. M. Woźniak; co.supervisor: Prof. L. Marinelli) she offered the first Italian translation of the poetic prose Biesy and proposed a different interpretation of this work. She is currently a PhD student in Germanic and Slavic Studies at Sapienza University of Rome and Charfles University in Prague. In her dissertation (supervisors: Prof. A. Ceccherelli; Prof. J. Goszczyńska; co-advisor: Mgr. Tereza Chlaňová, Ph.D) she will explore the phenomenon of self-translation in Central and Eastern Europe at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, focusing in particular on the poetic works of Stanisław Przybyszewski and Ivan Franko.
