Madina Tlostanova is a theorist and professor specializing in decolonial studies, postcolonial feminisms, and post-Soviet societies. Since 2015, she has been Professor of Postcolonial Feminisms at Linköping University. She graduated from Moscow State University with a degree in Germanic and Romance languages and literatures, specializing in U.S. literature. In 1994, she completed a PhD in American Literature at the Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and in 2000 obtained the Russian equivalent of a habilitation degree at the same institution. She previously held professorships at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration and at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. Her research focuses on the coloniality of knowledge, post-Soviet identities, decolonial art, and feminist epistemologies. She is the author of more than 290 scholarly articles and several major books, including What Does it Mean to be Post-Soviet? (2018) and Learning to Unlearn (with Walter Mignolo, 2012).
