Jessie Labov is Associate Professor of Communication and Media Sciences and Senior Research Fellow at the Corvinus Institute for Advanced Studies at Corvinus University. She is also a researcher in the Department of Literary Theory at the Institute of Literary Studies (ELTE Research Center for the Humanities). She has held positions at McDaniel College in Budapest, Central European University and the Ohio State University. Her scholarship has always focused on Central and Southeastern Europe, particularly the relationship between émigrés and cultural developments in the region. Labov is the author of Transatlantic Central Europe: Contesting Geography and Creating Culture Beyond the Nation (CEU Press, 2019) and the co-editor with Friederike Kind-Kovács of Samizdat, Tamizdat and Beyond: Independent Media Crossing Borders before and after 1989 (Berghahn, 2013). Her current projects all concern digital approaches to cultural heritage, in particular the paths of Hungarian and Central European émigrés during the second half of the twentieth century.
