Jérémiah Vervoort
Jérémiah Nirina Vervoort is a PhD candidate in Legal Sciences at the Université libre de Bruxelles, in joint supervision with Université Paris Nanterre. He has also been the coordinator of the Research Centre on the Experience of War (CREG) since September 2025. His research mainly focuses on international criminal law, with a particular interest in the issue of colonial crimes. After obtaining a Master’s degree with a specialization in criminal and civil law, he completed an LL.M. in Public International Law in 2021–2022, both at ULB.
Currently a FNRS fellow, he is conducting his doctoral research under the supervision of Damien Scalia and Anne-Charlotte Martineau. His thesis examines the role that criminal law could play in addressing Belgium’s colonial past, as well as the related prospects for reparations.Contact : jeremiah.vervoort@ulb.be
