James Vliexs holds a Master’s degree in History from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and a second Master’s in Modern Literature from Université Paris Nanterre.

In 2023, he began a PhD at ULB on French-speaking Belgian literary and artistic periodicals between 1880 and 1914, under the joint supervision of Clément Dessy and Julien Schuh. His research focuses on literary translations in these journals, using a multidisciplinary approach.

He also examines French and Flemish periodicals, as well as the lively debate surrounding literary cosmopolitanism.
