Helena Cox

Dr Helena Cox is a British art curator and art historian of Czech origin. Helena studied art history at the Charles university in Prague and holds a PhD from the University of York.

Her doctoral research focused on the reflection of British art in Bohemian culture around 1900, especially the Pre-Raphaelites and wider Victorian painting.

Helena previously worked as a curator of the Japanese collection at the National Museum in Prague, at Beverley Art Gallery in East Yorkshire, and in 2022 Helena became the inaugural art curator at the University of York Art Collection, overseeing a collection of over a thousand artworks of modern British and international art.

Helena’s research interests include British, Czech and Japanese art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as curatorial theory and practice especially within the higher education context.
