Camille Bourgeus

PhD student

Camille Bourgeus holds an MA-degree in Linguistics and Literature from Ghent University and an MA-degree in Film and Theatre studies from the University of Antwerp. In 2017, she joined the Research Centre for Visual Poetics at the University of Antwerp to prepare a PhD on the Chinese filmmaker and visual artist Wang Bing, funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). Via thinkers such as Georg Lukács, Fredric Jameson and Rey Chow, she develops a political analysis of Wang Bing’s long take aesthetics. Camille explores how Wang’s documentaries make local realities insightful in their global embeddedness: individual narratives are implicitly yet systematically traced back to the broader logic of globalisation. Her work has been published in Diacritics and the online critical journals Photogénie and Sabzian.
