The study of surveillance is attracting growing interest in academic circles. Research on this theme aims to reveal, empirically, theoretically and ethically, the nature and impact of a key process of social organization (Lyon et al. 2012). This process involves the collection, analysis and use of data in various fields of social, environmental, economic or political governance. It is orchestrated through a complex network of institutions, systems, bureaucracies and social ties, making its effects particularly complex to delineate and study. Responses to surveillance, be they opposition, resistance, diversion or reappropriation, manifest locally in militant and artistic actions.
Through this study day, we aim to reflect on these changes by focusing on two main areas: firstly, on public action taken by a variety of actors at the crossroads of the "public" and the "private", and at the reception of these practices by the population, and secondly, on how these practices are received by the population, particularly looking at the methods of resistance and opposition employed in both democratic and authoritarian contexts.
