La leçon inaugurale de MODERNITAS sera prononcée par prof. Sascha BRU de KuLeuven, professeur en littérature comparée et spécialiste internationalement reconnu des avant-gardes. Il dirige le centre MDRN à Leuven qui est l'un de nos partenaires importants en Belgique. Il dirige notamment un grand projet de recherche "Literary Knowledge (1890-1950): Modernisms and the Sciences in Europe".

This talk attempts to sketch why the study of the interface between literature and science in the modernist period (ca. 1890-1950) is as challenging as it is fascinating. What does one need to know before delving into this field of study? What makes this period stand out when it comes to the interaction between literature and science? And what are perhaps the main challenges for the future study of literature and science in this period?
