Sarah Demart
Researcher (scientific)
Sarah Demart is a sociologist and has been working at the Observatoire du Sida et des Sexualités since 2018. After a PhD on Congolese migrations and politico-religious reconfigurations in a postcolonial context (2004-10), she focused on Afrodescendant and black mobilizations based on an ethnography of the Afro-Belgian activist space, particularly in Brussels (2011-19) and on the place of migrants in responses to HIV/AIDS (since 2019). She draws on these empirical questions to reflect on a range of theoretical issues such as global race, decolonial methodologies, the politics of ignorance, subaltern resistances and epistemic extractivism.
