Oona Le Meur

Research associate

I hold a joint PhD in juridical sciences from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and Sciences Po Paris. My dissertation, which was defended in October 2022, is focused on the legal reasoning of magistrates who sit in the customary courts of New Caledonia. As a part of my research, I am involved in ethnomethodological studies, which aim to reconstruct in great detail the various legal operations that motivate judges' decisions.

I completed a ten-month research contract from September 2022 to June 2023 under the supervision of Professor Diane Bernard of the Université de Saint-Louis. The research field concerns cases of sexual and domestic violence in the courts of first instance in French-speaking Belgium, with a particular focus on gender categorizations in the legal reasoning of legal professionals.

Since January 2024, I have been doing a postdoctorate as part of the ANR VioletGinger, supervised by Ariane Amado. My research focuses on domestic violence on the margins of gender and sexuality.
