Ioan Trifu is lecturer at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. A political scientist and historian, he is interested in the long-term transformation of the nation-state with a particular focus on Japan. His research examines topics such as political leadership, the political uses of the past, and human-environment interaction by incorporating an institutional perspective as well as the emotional and symbolic dimensions of politics. His current project deals with heritage politics in Japan since the Meiji era. He has held academic positions in France, Germany as well as Japan, and his works has been published in various international journals in the fields of Japanese studies and political science.
