Dr. Coraline Jortay is CNRS Research Fellow (THALIM UMR 7172). Her research explores Sinophone literary practices of the first half of the 20th century, drawing on a multidisciplinary approach situated at the intersection of translation studies, gender history, and linguistic history. In particular, she seeks to shed light on the cultural and political history of Sinophone Asia through the lens of linguistic practices, understood as a key site where forms of othering and solidarities where (un)made in the broader context of accelerating linguistic nationalisms and imperialisms in East and South-East Asia. A co-founder of the China Academic Network on Gender (CHANGE), she is also a translator of contemporary Sinophone literature into French, with a taste for poetry and short fiction.
