Chikako Mori

Chikako Mori holds a Doctorate in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. For the 2024-2025 academic year, she is a visiting professor at GERME (Groupe de Recherche sur les Migrations et Ethnicité) at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. She is a professor of sociology at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, where she also serves as the director of the Research Center for Multiculturalism and Intersectionality in Complex Cities (MICCS). Additionally, she is the president of the International Relations Committee of the Japanese Sociological Association.
Previously, she was an associate professor at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo from 2012 to 2019. During this period, she also spent time as a visiting researcher at Princeton University’s Center for Migration and Development in 2015-2016. From 2018 to 2022, she held the position of associate researcher at the Center for International Studies (CERI) at Sciences Po in Paris.
Her academic expertise lies in urban sociology and international migration. She is particularly focused on the comparative sociology of urban inequalities and marginalization, as well as racism and discrimination, with a specific focus on Japan, Europe, and the United States. Her research aims to provide comparative insights into the dynamics of social exclusion and racial discrimination in different global urban settings.
