Conference "The Fallen: A Meditation on Val Newton's films"
Le 17/09/2018
by Alexander Nemerov, Stanford University, MSH visiting professor
How does a film relate to its time and yet “fall through” its time? How is this “falling through” not a matter of transcendence-of rising up-but precisely of sinking down, dropping down, like a stone thrown in a well?Alexander Nemerov is the Carl and Marilyn Thoma Provostial Professor in the Arts and Humanities as well as Chair of the Department of Art and Art History at Stanford University. He is the author, among others, of Icons of Grief (2005), about the work and life of Val Lewton.
