Caroll Davila conducted her PhD in both Université Libre de Bruxelles and Universiteit Leiden with a FNRS fellowship. Her work focuses on tangible and intangible heritage of the Zapotec indigenous communities from the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca (Mexico), with a decolonial perspective. She combined ethnographic fieldwork, linguistic interpretations, archaeological prospection as well as direct collaboration with indigenous native teachers with decolonizing and educative purposes. After accomplishing her PhD, she participated to a collective project at the University of Münster concerning Zapotec religion in the 19th Century. In 2020, she has been awarded a BAEF fellowship for a Postdoctoral position at the Anthropology Department of the University of Berkeley, where she will continue her researches on Zapotec ritual speeches.
