Inhwa JEON

Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Inhwa Jeon (or Inhwa Jeon-Kosova) studied French literature and comparative literature at Sorbonne University before joining the PhD program in Languages, Literature and Translation Studies at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), where she is affiliated with the Philixte and EASt research laboratories.

Her work lies at the crossroads of Korean Studies and Francophone comparative literature. She examines transnational narratives of war, memory, and space in French-language literature and visual culture from 1950 to the present. Her doctoral dissertation investigates how modern and contemporary Korea — including South Korea, North Korea, and the Korean diaspora — has been imagined and reconfigured in Francophone literary and graphic works since the Korean War. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach that draws on imagology, geocriticism, memory studies, and post-imperial theory, she analyzes cultural productions concerning the Korean peninsula within their broader historical and geopolitical contexts. In this framework, Korea serves as a privileged lens through which to explore larger issues of cultural translation, spatial imagination, transnational memory, and global literary circulation.

Passionate about art and literature, she is particularly interested in the dialogues and contrasts between works from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Working in French, Korean, and English, she strives to build bridges between languages and imaginations through in-depth translation, analysis, and contextual interpretation. Her aim is to offer readers a window onto lesser-known works, highlighting the richness of literary exchange between East and West.
