Workshop "China’s Youth Cultures and Collective Spaces: Creativity, Sociality, Identity and Resistance"
Du 07/06 au 08/05/2018
This workshop is part of our GENEsyS project
Moving away from general arguments about hopelessly self-centered, materialistic and individualistic youths, this workshop seeks to examine the practices and tools actively developed or appropriated by Chinese younger generations in collective spaces, to give expressive forms to their social life and experience and to create meaningful worlds. Collective space here refers to spaces that are generally public but not necessarily accessible for free: they are collective sites of interaction and performance. Focusing on both physical and virtual spaces, national and transnational spaces, the proposed project will also contribute to redefine collective spaces as Chinese young people experience them. Space here is indeed conceptualized not only as geographical or material spaces, but also in terms of complex interacting social relations.
