Séminaire doctoral Sometimes PhD data gathering can prove overwhelming or downright impossible for one person to do on limited time and budget. This was the case in my own experience, conducting archival work on bills passed between 1987 and 2012 in the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives, where there are no digital records as of present. The question arose whether to severely limit the dissertation scope or to engage outside assistance, and the decision was made that an RA was necessary. This presentation gives an overview of how a Research Assistant may be of help in the context of data gathering in a developing country context: finding, hiring, supervision from afar, limitations and challenges, benefits, and the ethical considerations.
