Research projects
SfaxForward is a cooperation project focused on strengthening the capacity of the Maghreb House of Human and Social Sciences (MdMSH) at the University of Sfax in Tunisia, particularly in the field of cultural heritage. It involves the Université libre de Bruxelles, Aix-Marseille University, and the University of Sfax, supported by the Horizon Europe (Twinning) programme.
SfaxForward is based on the idea that tangible and intangible heritage can play a central role in the transformation and development of a territory. By learning to value their cultural heritage, people can better understand who they are and what they share. The identification and subsequent participatory management of these shared cultural assets have the potential to foster a more stable and inclusive society—one that manages migratory flows more effectively thanks to greater civic engagement, while building and reclaiming ownership of its own territory.
To achieve this, SfaxForward has developed three types of initiatives: multidisciplinary conferences and workshops on the project's key themes, thematic schools for early-career researchers, and a Heritage Observatory of Southern Tunisia, created in collaboration with civil society.
