The Maison des Sciences Humaines (MSH) of ULB is a host structure for research teams based on interdisciplinary projects primarily related to the social sciences and humanities. It is composed, besides the coordination team, of integrated research teams and affiliated research teams.

Integrated Teams

Researchers can come together around a common interdisciplinary problem or methodology, based on an innovative research project, preferably interfaculty, to form a new integrated research entity within the MSH. A call for applications is open every two years, allowing these teams to be established for a period of four years, which may be renewable. Applications are evaluated by international experts and selected by an independent committee.

The next call will be published in December 2025 for integration in September 2026.

Affiliated Teams

Existing research entities or former integrated teams can be affiliated with the MSH based on their previous work, its quality, its interdisciplinary dimension, and societal impact. A call for applications is open every year to ULB teams, enabling affiliated teams to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of their work and benefit from some of the MSH’s resources.

The next call will be published in December 2025 for affiliation in September 2026.

Individual Researchers

The Maison des Sciences Humaines of ULB also welcomes individual researchers.

Each year, several professors are invited to the MSH at the request of the teams it comprises.

Invited researchers, notably refugees or those in difficult situations in their home countries, can also be hosted on an individual basis. These requests must be addressed directly to the MSH and are handled on a case-by-case basis, notably depending on the practical conditions of hosting.
