Juliette Schwak is the Principal Investigator of the ERC Starting Grant project Longing for an Economic Past? Political Economic Nostalgia in East Asian Societies (PENEA). She is an expert of South Korean political economy and society, with comparative expertise in East Asia. She has published extensively on Korea’s nation branding and development cooperation policies, and she is completing her first monograph, Endless Contest: The Making of a Competitive Society in South Korea. Until December 2025, she was Associate Professor at Franklin University Switzerland, and previously Assistant Professor at Tokyo International University.
