Workshop REMOTE XUAR "Remote Ethnography of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region"
Du 11/12 au 14/12/2023
by the REMOTE XUAR team members
In collaboration with EASt, the EU-funded project REMOTE XUAR on « Remote Ethnography of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region » will organize a 4-day workshop at ULB from 11-14 December 2023
The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) in the northwest corner of China is home to a large population of Uyghur Muslims. The treatment of Uyghur Muslims has received international attention due to reports of human rights abuses. The EU-funded REMOTE XUAR project will study the region through remote ethnography and research capacity building to produce reliable knowledge of XUAR. It will develop a sound methodology for studying areas with limited access. Bringing together three universities (Palacký University Olomouc, University of Würzburg, and Université libre de Bruxelles), the project aims to train researchers in remote ethnography methods. The project will position Palacký University Olomouc as a leader in XUAR studies. It will also provide reliable information to media, policymakers, NGOs and the Uyghur diaspora community.
From Monday 11 December to Thursday 14 December, 1 pm - 6 pm
This is a closed workshop
