Advances in Asian Numismatics: New Research and Methodologies at the ONS Brussels Meeting

The Oriental Numismatic Society (ONS) is an international organization dedicated to the study, documentation, and preservation of the rich monetary and medallic heritage of Asian cultures.

Organized with EASt (ULB), this conference explores Eastern monetary history, from the iconographic evolution of Bactrian and Indo-Greek coinage to a reappraisal of recent finds in Elymais and Mesene. Expert presentations will examine the Sasanian era and East Asian history, specifically 20th-century Chinese banknotes and 19th-century military dollars from Taiwan and Fujian. Attendees will also gain insights into Tibetan private seals and silver medals from the Sikh Empire. Finally, the meeting bridges numismatics and technology by introducing custom algorithmic tools designed to modernize the research and identification of oriental materials.
