Shared experiences on data collection, protection and management in European research projects, and critical discussions from a social science perspective/ Partage d'expériences sur la collecte, la protection et la gestion de données dans les projets de recherche européens, et discussion critique du point de vue des sciences sociales.

The requirements concerning data collection, protection, and management in EU financed research projects, such as formal ethics requirement, data management plan (DMP), « open data », and so on, are likely to spread further past the EU framework and become standards required and enforced by other funding bodies supporting research in the near future. As social science scholars and ULB fellows of the Marie Sk?odowska-Curie program of the European Commission, we aim to share some critical reflections on our experience going through these steps for our own research projects. Together with representatives from ULB European Liaison Office (Cellule Europe), the ULB Data Protection Officer, and respectively the ULB Data Security Advisor we intend to discuss the challenges of navigating between methodologies and ethical principles developed over the years in qualitative social sciences on the one hand, and bureaucratic, legal and « hard science » oriented tools on the other.
