Jiang Jin is Professor of History at East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai, where she returned to take her current position in 2004, after receiving a Ph.D in history at Stanford University and many years of teaching in the United States. Prof. Jiang Jin's research focuses on 20th-century China, with a special interest in popular opera and the urban culture of Shanghai, and women's and gender history in China. She is the author of many articles and editor of several anthologies. Her best-known monograph, Women Playing Men: Yue Opera and Social Change in Twentieth-Century Shanghai (Washington University Press, 2009), has received considerable critical acclaim.
