Soraya El Kahlaoui
Marie Sklodowska Curie Global Fellow
Soraya El Kahlaoui, a Ph.D. holder in sociology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, is currently a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action Global fellow at Ghent University and Bir Zeit University. Her research, which examines the mechanisms of dispossession in the MENA region and the formation of property rights, is notable for its innovative perspective on the dynamics of social and political transformation in the MENA region post-2011. With a focus on Morocco, Tunisia, and Palestine, her work offers a fresh and unique angle. In addition to her academic contributions, she has also produced the documentary Landless Moroccans and authored numerous articles, including the latest one, Claiming Democracy and Environmental Justice at the Margins: Land Rights and Urban Informality as Sites of Mobilization in Morocco, published in Middle East Critique. She is also the principal investigator of the Traab project (www.traab.com), which maps and visualizes property conflicts in North Africa.
